Crane leads Players; Woods six back

05/07/2009 - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ben Crane fired a seven-under 65 on Thursday to take the lead after the first round of The Players Championship at the famous Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass.

John Mallinger, Alex Cejka and Richard S. Johnson share second place at six- under 66.

Tiger Woods had an up-and-down round of one-under 71 on Thursday that left him in a tie for 38th place.

"I hit the ball well today, I really did. It's just unfortunate I didn't capitalize on my opportunities today," acknowledged Woods, who only won this title in 2001 and has not finished in the top 10 since. "I had quite a few of them."

Woods began on the 10th tee and out of the gate struggled with the flat stick. He missed birdie putts of 10 feet at 10 and 11, but found serious danger thanks to an errant drive at 14. Woods made bogey there to fall to plus-one, but got on the right side of par two holes later.

At the par-five 16th, Woods hit a three-wood around the corner and had only a seven-iron for his second shot. Woods stuffed it three feet from the hole and kicked in the eagle putt to jump to one-under par for the championship.

He two-putted for a birdie from a long way away at the par-five second. Woods missed the green at both six and eight and walked off with bogeys at both. Those bogeys dropped him to even-par, but he knocked a wedge to a foot to set up a closing birdie at nine.

Woods was joined at minus-one by several players including Vijay Singh, Adam Scott and defending champion Sergio Garcia.

Phil Mickelson, a winner two years ago, birdied three of his first four holes Thursday, but fell apart. He recorded six bogeys and two birdies after the fourth for a one-over 73.

"I hit some squirrely shots," admitted Mickelson. "I didn't score well."

Crane certainly did.

He teed off on the back nine first Thursday and birdied his first two holes. Crane parred the next two, then dropped a shot thanks to a bogey at the 14th.

From there, Crane played brilliantly.

At the par-five 16th, Crane hit his second into a greenside bunker, but blasted out to tap-in range to set up the birdie. One hole later, Crane rolled in a 20-footer for birdie and made the turn at three-under par.

He parred No. 1, but chipped to six feet for a birdie at the par-five second. Crane birdied the par-three third, converted a four-footer for birdie at four and made it four in a row thanks to a long birdie putt at the fifth.

Crane was seven-under and in the lead of the tournament after the birdie run. He parred six then sank a 12-foot birdie putt at No. 7 to get to eight-under par.

At the par-three eighth, Crane knocked his tee ball into a bunker. The best he could do was 12 feet with his second and Crane missed the par save to fall to minus-seven.

Crane laid up with his second at the par-five ninth and he hit his third to 12 feet. Crane failed to make that last birdie effort, but still got in with a great round, especially a great one with the putter.

Crane needed only 22 putts on Thursday and acknowledged how special the performance was, considering the difficulty of the greens at Sawgrass.

"This is definitely one of the better putting rounds of my career, and you know, those greens out there are immaculate," said Crane, a two-time PGA Tour winner. "You get some of those downgrain putts and it just rolls like it's on the hood of your car, just so smooth going out there. It's beautiful to watch that.

"Today I was able to put the ball in the right spots, give myself some opportunities and then all of a sudden some putts start going in and give you a little confidence, and it was one of those special days playing golf."

Retief Goosen, Camilo Villegas, Jason Dufner, Jonathan Byrd, Scott Verplank, David Toms, Ian Poulter, Brad Adamonis and Bubba Watson are knotted in fifth place at five-under 67.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.

Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.

NFL ODDSTop Football Betting Free Agents to Change Teams

NFL Betting

It’s time to see how the biggest NFL free agent signings will perform for their news teams. Some will work out and could be the difference that makes a difference in the win column.

We look at the best off-season signings and if they should influence your NFL betting this season. Julius Peppers – Peppers was the biggest prize available on the 2010 NFL free agent market and the Chicago Bears opened the bank to bring his talents to the south side.

Peppers is explosive, he can get around blockers and cause quarterbacks to lose their minds. We all remember the classic Peppers game last year against the Vikings where he hounded Brett Favre into his worst game of the season. Peppers joining the Bears could be the reason Favre retired for good Tuesday morning. In addition to Peppers, the Bears added Chester Taylor to back up Matt Forte, Forte didn’t have the same intensity in 2009 compared to 2008 and bringing in Taylor will challenge Forte to bring it every game or he’ll risk losing carries to Taylor.

Betting on the Bears is a good option this season because of Julius Peppers and to a lesser extent Taylor. Antonio Bryant and Terrell Owens – The Cincinnati Bengals signed two former number one wide receivers to line up with Chad Ocho Cinco. Antonio Bryant had a huge season in 2008 catching 83 passes for over 1200 yards but regressed last season. Playing for the Tampa Bay Bucs last season was a large part of the regression, everyone was bad in TB last season.

Bryant should have a bounce back season if he can win the number two spot from Terrell Owens. If Bryant wins the number 2 WR spot, it will open up a completely new set of problems for the Bengals. If Owens is forced to the bench in favor of Bryant, his attitude will create trouble for Carson Palmer and head coach Marv Lewis. If Owens is the number two receiver, it means Bryant can’t live up to his past numbers and the Bengals are still limited in the passing game. NFL bettors should be wary of laying their money down on what could potentially be the biggest gong show in the league in 2010. 2010 football betting lines for this can be found at this top online sportsbook. Karlos Danby – The Miami Dolphins have a great running back tandem in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, a good young QB in Chad Henne and now the Bill Parcells regime is building a solid defense.

NFL bettors should be wary of laying their money down on what could potentially be the biggest gong show in the league in 2010. Karlos Danby – The Miami Dolphins have a great running back tandem in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, a good young QB in Chad Henne and now the Bill Parcells regime is building a solid defense. They signed away the Arizona Cardinals top linebacker Karlos Danby. In the past two seasons, Danby has totaled 228 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. The Dolphins are the forgotten team of the AFC East with the second longest odds to win the division but with the addition of Karlos Danby and a trade for WR Brandon Marshall makes the Miami Dolphins legitimate contenders in the AFC East and in the NFL’s Eastern Conference.

The Dolphins will make NFL wagering fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
